There is a joke about an engineer who retired after a successful career. He enjoyed a few years of retirement until the manufacturing company he finished with had a problem with one of their machines. Knowing the engineer was one of their brightest in his day, they called him up and said, "We've had our entire staff look at this machine and none of them are able to fix it. We hate to ask, but can you come back for a while just to do this one repair." Not really wanting to give up his new hobby of hammock riding, but knowing the company would not give him much peace until he did fix the machine, he acquiesced and showed up the following day.

The engineer spent that day watching the machine and running a number of tests on it. Finally, about three in the afternoon, he left the shop and returned 20 minutes later with some chalk. The engineer then wrote a small X on the machine and tested it a bit more to verify it now worked correctly. The engineer notified the supervisor the machine was fixed, went home, and two days later an explanation of the problem with a $50,000 invoice arrived at the plant.

That day he got a call from the owner of the plant demanding an explanation of the invoice. The engineer calmly told the owner it was $1 for the chalk, and $49,999 for knowing where to put the X. He was promptly paid in full.

While my domain is software, not mechanics, I do produce intellectual property that continues providing a service long after I am finished with it. For the last 5 years, much of my time has been spent developing web solutions. More recently I have been programming software in C and C++. This website is dedicated to showing off that work and other goodies. If you like what you see here, you may also contact me for a quote for your project.
